Botswana National Netball Association (BONNA) was established on the 6th March 1979 under the Societies Act and seven years later changed the name to Botswana Netball Association (BONA) on the 30th June 1986.
About BONA
BONA is an affiliated member of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC), the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC), the Confederation of Southern African Netball Associations (COSANA), the Africa Netball (AN) and the International Netball Federation (INF).
Netball is the number one women sport in Botswana and played at an amateur level. BONA’s primary role is to administer and develop netball from grassroots to elite level and has an affiliation of 16 netball teams, 8 in the North and 8 in the South. BONA encourages and support mass participation hence our vision to ensure we cover the whole country through building relations with different stakeholders like Botswana Primary School Sport Association (BOPSSA), Botswana Integrated School Association (BISA), International School Association (ISA), Botswana Tertiary School Sport Association (BOTESSA), Botswana Brigades Sport Association (BOBSA), Constituency, Centers of School Excellence (CSE) and try to include any other organisation that plays netball for fun as a form of capacity building.
BONA made history by successfully hosting the Netball World Youth Cup (NWYC) 2017 games that took the Botswana Netball to a higher level and also recognised for being the first to host the:
• 1st International Netball Federation (INF) World Competition in Africa
• 1st World Sporting Event for Botswana.
• 1st World Netball Youth Cup based on regional qualification criteria that was hosted in July 2016 as a test event for the NWYC 2017
• NWYC17 came a year after the BOT50, therefore was profiled as part of the BOT50
• Also Coincided with Botswana hosting the IWG Women in Sports 2014 – 2018

The NWYC2017 was watched by over 3 million people across the globe. Had over 1 million television vies. Considered the most successful International Netball Federation youth event ever.
